§ 38-83. Establishment of historic district boundaries.

  • (a)

    The following historic district is hereby established:

    (1)

    Beginning at the intersection of the easterly bank of the Clinton River and the northerly right-of-way line of Auburn Road (also known as Main Street); thence easterly along the northerly right-of-way line of Auburn Road (also known as Main Street) to the southeast corner of Lot 52 of Assessor's Plat No. 1 (recorded L. 13 of Plats, P. 47, M.C.R.); thence northwesterly 108.20 feet to the northeast corner of lot 51 of said Assessor's Plat No. 1; thence easterly 50.0 feet and northerly 101.92 feet to northeast corner of Lot 50 of said plat; thence westerly 20.35 feet; thence northerly 66.0 feet along the east line of lot 49 of said plat; thence westerly 5.04 feet; thence northerly 64.78 feet along the east line of lot 48 of said plat; thence northerly 33.0 feet to the southeast corner of lot 47 and northerly 66.0 feet along the east line of lot 47 of said plat; thence easterly 33.0 feet along the north line of lot 60 of said Assessor's Plat No. 1; thence northwesterly 266.20 feet along the westerly line of lots 62 to 67 inclusive to the northwest corner of lot 67 of said Assessor's Plat No. 1; thence northeasterly to the southeast corner of lot 77 of block 1 of Assessor's Replat of John Stead's Addition (recorded L. 13 of Plats, P. 48 M.C.R.); thence northeasterly along the easterly line of lots 68 to 77 to the northeast corner of lot 68 block 1 of said plat; thence northerly to the southeast corner of lot 63 Block 2 of said plat; thence northerly along the easterly line of lots 54 and 63 to the northeast corner of Lot 54 of said plat; thence northwesterly to the southeast corner of Lot 49 Block 3 of said plat; thence northwesterly 165.0 feet along the easterly line of said Lot 49; thence easterly to the southeast corner of Lot 40 Block 3 of said plat; thence northerly along the easterly line of Lot 40 Block 3 and the easterly line of Lot 36 Block 4 to the northeast corner of Lot 36 Block 4 of said Assessor's Replat of John Stead's Addition; thence westerly 570.07 feet along the north line of Lots 30 to 36 inclusive to the northeast corner of Lot 29 Block 5 of said plat; thence southeasterly 165.0 feet to the southeast corner of Lot 27 Block 5 of said plat; thence westerly 297.0 feet to the southeast corner of Lot 2 Block 12 of said plat; thence southeasterly 1072.50 feet along the west line of Brownell Street to the northeast corner of Lot 9 Block 9 of said plat; thence westerly 165.0 feet to the northwest corner of said Lot 9; thence southeasterly 82.50 feet along the west line of said lot to the north line of McClellan Street; thence westerly 955.95 feet along the north line of McClellan Street and its extension to its intersection on the easterly bank of the Clinton River; thence southerly along the easterly bank of the Clinton River to the point of beginning.

    The district described in subsections (a)(1) and (2) of this section is intended to encompass structures north of Auburn Road and along a northern configuration which utilizes Cass Avenue as a center reference, and excludes Van Dyke frontage and industrial properties west of Brownell, together with the structures north of Auburn Road and west of the Clinton River commonly referred to as the so-called Farmer's Market area.
